I was fortunate in the fact that I was born and raised in a generation with information and opportunities at your fingertips. Contrary to my parents, who grew up before Google was a verb and carrying your phone everywhere was an unborn practice, I was exposed to a new way of taking in the world and deciding how I wanted to make my mark in it.
I (partly) credit YouTube for getting me where I am today. One of my favorite pastimes as a teen was binge-watching my favorite YouTubers, some of whom happened to be living unconventional lifestyles. I remember being so inspired by them, thinking that one day, once I had the freedom that was granted after high school graduation, I would create a lifestyle that went against the status quo. Fast forward to now, I think I’m making my past self pretty damn proud.
During my time learning, growing, and exploring life, I’ve come across people who desire to do the same — create and live a lifestyle that goes against the norm — but they just don’t know where to start, or they allow fear to hold them back from taking the first step. And I also meet people who simply have not been exposed, like I had, to the possibilities of alternative living. That’s how “On My Terms,” a series featuring individuals creating and living a life on their terms came to be.
Many people find it easier to avoid living in authenticity because it does, in fact, require a bit of work: it requires you to question everything you’ve known, sit with yourself and assess your values, align with your desires, and then take action to manifest your vision.

This series is meant to contribute to an existing yet overlooked conversation centered on creating and living in authenticity. Many people find it easier to avoid living in authenticity because it does, in fact, require a bit of work: it requires you to question everything you’ve known, sit with yourself and assess your values, align with your desires, and then take action to manifest your vision. But, I believe it’s everyone’s right to be exposed to this conversation and, if they want, to join it.
The guests in this series are all in different stages of creating and building a life of their terms — some are just starting and some have been in the process for a while now. This will make it possible to see a range of perspectives and insights from those doing the work to thrive in their authenticity.
I am so excited to share these conversations with you. I know that without a doubt they will inspire you as much as they have inspired me.
You can find these conversations right here at aaliyahinspired.com or over at my YouTube channel aaliyahinspired.
First episode drops May 2. Stay tuned.
