I may be a bit biased but I think a vegan lifestyle is one of the best lifestyles to have. People go vegan for a variety of reasons; whether it be for ethical or personal reasons, a vegan diet can do some good for your well-being.
So in an effort to convince you to try out a vegan diet, here are five reasons you should consider going vegan.
It’s better for your health
A vegan diet is beneficial to your health in many ways. It prevents diseases (sometimes cures them), improves bodily functions, helps with weight control and more.
It is important to highlight, however, that there is an “unhealthy” side of veganism which includes vegan junk and fast food but a healthy balance between a whole food vegan diet and a “junk” food vegan diet seems to do the trick for me when it comes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
More energy
Have you been searching for solutions other than caffeine to increase your energy throughout the day? Then you should give a plant-based diet a try and see how it affects your mood and energy.
According to life sciences writer Sara Ryding, a vegan diet can improve energy metabolism in healthy, obese and type 2 diabetic individuals.
More energy and better daily performance is probably one of the main reasons many well-known athletes are choosing to adopt a plant-based diet. If the athletes swear by it, something must be in that vegan kale smoothie.
Animal cruelty
If you grew up saying that you love animals, have you ever thought about why you are okay with eating certain animals over others? Why eat pigs when you can have cats? Why eat cows when you can have dogs?
I’m not going to bombard you with graphic images and videos of the meat industry, but I will recommend watching the video titled “The Best Speech Ever” by Gary Yourosky. This video is what made the change for me.
The environment
If you’re concerned about reducing your ecological footprint, then going vegan helps decrease your impact on the earth in many ways.
The meat industry is a top contributor when it comes to greenhouse gases and resource depletion. According to PETA, producing a little more than 2 pounds of beef causes more greenhouse-gas emissions than driving a car for three hours and uses up more energy than leaving your house lights on for the same period of time.
Convenience
When I went vegan back in 2014, it was hard to find vegan options at grocery stores and restaurants especially in Mississippi, but boy has that changed.
There are so many substitutes, recipes and options for food in the vegan community now. If you like burgers, there’s vegan burgers. If you like icecream, there’s vegan icecream. If you like cheese, there’s vegan cheese. Need I go on?
Anything you like now pre-vegan you, can be found if you choose to go vegan! It’s so much easier, in my opinion, to go vegan now than in previous years.
So, what do you think? Are you going to give this lifestyle a shot?
