Documentaries are efficient ways to learn about a new subject of interest. With just a few clicks on your remote, you can learn a lot about something within an hour or two.
When I first went vegan, documentaries were helpful to learning about the lifestyle I was embarking on. For those of you interested in learning more about a plant-based lifestyle, here’s five documentaries you can find on Netflix.
Cowspiracy (2014)
With a goal to shine light on one of the major contributors to the climate crisis — factory farming — directors and writers Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn enlighten the viewer on the truth behind an industry individuals unknowingly support.
Seeing that this documentary is a staple in the vegan community, you can’t go wrong with taking the time to watch it.
The Game Changers (2018)
A misconception surrounding a plant-based diet is that it’s “harmful” to individuals seeking to build muscle or endure strenuous physical activity in sports. This misconception deters a lot of athletes, specifically men, from a plant-based diet.
Former UFC fighter and producer James Wilkes and writers Mark Monroe and Joseph Pace debunk these misconceptions by sharing testimonies from successful plant-based athletes, health professionals, and reputable nutritionists.
What The Health (2017)
Made by the same creators as Cowspiracy, What The Health follows Kip Anderson as he tries to uncover ways to prevent and reverse chronic diseases. While doing so, Anderson exposes the cracks in government and corporations’ role in misleading people when it comes to healthcare.
The Milk System (2017)
In this documentary, the dairy industry is closely examined to expose the myths, practices, and impact it has on our health and perceptions.
Seaspiracy (2021)
It’s easy to advocate for land animals and forget about our sea friends.
Filmmaker Ali Tabrizi explores the effects of overfishing and sea-life consumption on our environment and the dangers it has on our future as a species.
