It’s been a while since I sat down to list the things that have captivated my attention for a particular month. Since October (and fall in general) is my favorite time of year, I thought it would be the perfect time to bring back “Monthly Obsessions.”
This month has went by way too fast, but here’s my obsessions for the month of October:
Skin by Joy Crookes
On October 15, one of my favorite artists released her debut album titled “Skin,” and it has been on repeat for weeks now.
If you haven’t heard of this London-based artist yet, then here’s your sign to hop on the bandwagon! I wrote an album review for “Skin” that you should definitely check out.
White Teeth by Zadie Smith
and dampered my love for reading. However, I recently was assigned to read a book by the beautiful Zadie Smith, and I think she’s earned herself a new fan.
White Teeth explores the relationship Britain had with immigrants from the British Commonwealth. The story is through the eyes of various characters of different races, cultures, and ages.
Even though the book is centered on issues of the early UK, I find that the issues are relatable to today’s culture.
Flowers
I always envied the girls in movies who received flowers from their partners. I always thought that in order to receive flowers, it had to be from someone else — I am happy to say I have discarded this notion recently.
I don’t know why I never did this sooner… you know? Buying my own flowers on my weekly trips to Trader Joe’s.
Buying flowers for yourself is one of the biggest acts of self-love in my opinion (that is, if you enjoy flowers).
Secret Life of the American Teenager
This show is a little throwback for most of you. I remember seeing snippets of this show on television growing up. Like most older shows, I never took the time to sit down and watch them chronologically, so I‘ve been diving into old shows like Family Matters, Girlfriends, and now Secret Life.
I’m on season four at the moment and, to say the least, all the characters are getting on my nerves except for Rickey. I could stop my self-inflicted torture by stop watching the show, but i feel like I invested too much time into this show, and I owe it to myself to see how the story ends.
Ukulele jams
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I picked up a ukulele this past summer and started learning how to play it.
It’s been so long since I had a hobby that I wasn’t trying to monetize. Learning new songs on the ukulele is my new favorite pastime.
That is all I have for my monthly obsessions. If you enjoyed this post, be sure to follow me on instagram or visit my “monthly obsessions” archive.
