“Was it hard going vegan?”
Those five words are directed towards me on several occasions. It never fails to come up in conversations when someone finds out I’m vegan.
The answer to the question is always the same: No. It wasn’t difficult for me to align my lifestyle with my ethics.
Let’s remove the topic of transitioning to a vegan lifestyle for a second and consider this: is it hard to change something in your life when it feels natural, right, and in harmony with your goals and/or beliefs? For most people, the answer is no.
Going vegan was probably one of the easiest things I’ve done in my life. However, I see where most people are coming from with their curiosity. Drastically changing a lifestyle you’ve probably known since childhood is challenging on the surface, but if the decision to change truly resonates with you, the thought of your old lifestyle won’t hold much power.
In the case of transitioning to a vegan lifestyle, if you’re passionate, the temptation to consume animal meat/animal by-products or to support companies who partake in the mistreatment of animals (such as cosmetic or clothing companies) is completely eliminated.
Of course, everyone’s experience is different when adopting a vegan lifestyle but, if you’re considering making the switch, find your why and create steps that work for you.
