It’s hard to know where to start when you want to incorporate more sustainable practices into your daily life. There are so many aspects to explore within the sustainable living community, but it can be daunting when different levels of sustainable lifestyles are thrown in your face.
If you’re interested in adopting more sustainable practices but feel overwhelmed with where to start, then here are three things you can do to ease into the lifestyle:
Start with what you have
Sustainable living can be aesthetically-pleasing when it comes to the cute bamboo cutlery kit or decorative Hydro Flasks, but many people make the mistake of thinking that they need to purchase new things in order to appear more sustainable.
When you’re starting off, simply start with what you already have.
You don’t have to revamp your wardrobe with sustainable clothing brands, instead wear what you have. You don’t have to purchase a Hydro Flask if you already have a perfectly good plastic one in your cabinet. You don’t have to purchase a new cutlery kit if you already have silverware you can use.
Find inspiration
Following content creators who share new ideas on ways to be more sustainable helps tremendously when you’re beginning your journey because you’re constantly exposed to new ways to fuel sustainable living.
When I first started my sustainability journey, I watched Youtuber “Shelbizleee” and a few others. Even to this day, I find value in Shelbi’s content and hopefully you will too!
Go easy on yourself
It can often appear that carrying metal straws, ditching plastic bags, and carpooling are the sole solutions to reversing climate change and pollution, but it’s not.
Individual efforts can only do so much when it comes to sustainability practices. The real change happens on a large scale with corporation and governmental involvement, so don’t carry the burden of saving the world.
