Let’s make one thing clear: the fate of our planet doesn’t solely lie in the hands of individuals.
The problems we face stem from corporations and institutions who refuse to change toxic and destructive practices embedded in its foundations. However, collective efforts made towards bettering the state of our earth never goes to waste.
Small efforts can look different from person to person. One thing I like to do is find sustainable swaps to the products I currently use in an attempt to reduce plastic waste.
Below are some of my favorite swaps I’ve been using for years now:
Reusable cutlery
The nice thing about cutlery is that you can grab a few out of your kitchen set and pack them up in a reusable bag when going out. I recently purchased a new set of cutlery, so that I can have a set in both the bags I frequently use when going out.
The bamboo cutlery set is from Keep It Simple Honolulu.
Soap Bags
If you’re a fan of skin and body care in the form of bars, then soap bags are a great investment. They can hold anything from soap bars, facial bars, or other miscellaneous beauty care. They cost no more than $10, and you can use them for daily storage or travel.
I purchased my first soap bag from Sonora Refillery in Oceanside, CA and my recent one from Keep It Simple in Hawaii.
Facial Bar
I purchased my first facial soap bar from Terra Essentials a few months ago, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to buying liquid face wash.
Not only was the facial bar packaged in recyclable material, it was made cruelty free and vegan.
That concludes my favorite sustainable alternatives. If you want more ideas for sustainable swaps, visit My Recent Zero Waste Swaps. For more on sustainable living, click here.
