I’m going to be honest — after six years of being vegan, I noticed a loss of excitement. I remember when I first went vegan, I was so passionate about learning more about the movement. I watched every documentary there was about veganism and read every article to learn as much as I could about the movement.
But I now find myself comfortable and lacking passion when it comes to the lifestyle. For the last few months, I’ve been looking for ways to get the feeling I once had at the beginning and along the way I found a few ways that could be helpful for anyone in the same situation whether it be with veganism or any other passion.
Remind yourself on why you started
I found that when I rewatched documentaries and youtube videos that inspired me in the beginning, I was reminded of why I started. Although the same exact feelings didn’t return, I had a sense of nostalgia and felt inspired to begin learning more about veganism. So go back and watch documentaries or re-read books that inspired you in the beginning, you’ll be reminded of your why and be inspired to continue your journey.
Find a new angle
When I initially went vegan, I looked at it from the perspective of saving animals. The more the years passed, the more I began shifting my perspective. There are so many angles you can take with the vegan lifestyle and when I feel uninspired I tend to start looking at veganism in new ways. Now, not only am I inspired by saving the animals, I’m also inspired by creating a sustainable environment through vegan values.
Surround yourself with like-minded people
Another way is to surround yourself with people who are passionate about the same things that you are. Whether that be be joining a group via Facebook or in person. Being in a group that continually shares their journey offers new insights and is a great way to keep you inspired.
It’s normal to feel a lack of inspiration after being involved in a passion for a great amount of time, but by returning to the roots by reminding yourself of your why and looking at your passion from different angles while surrounding yourself with like-minded people is a sure way to get motivated again.
